The following foods may be best to avoid during a H5N1 pandemic

May 1, 2009

I realise this will be controversial in the natural foods, alternative medicine community, but I thought it wise to include these foods that you might choose to not eat during a Swine Flu outbreak in your area.  JGrace

PRWEB) May 10, 2006 — A Biology teacher from Australia, named Stephen Jones, has done extensive research into the H5N1 virus and compiled a list of natural foods that are detrimental.

The list may come as a surprise to many people since foods such as spirulina and echinacea are listed as detrimental. This strange occurrence is largely due to the fact that the virus is immune to 2 cytokines that the body produces (TNF-a and IL-6). Cytokines are compounds produced by the body’s immune system that attack and remove foreign bodies. The problem is that when a foreign body is immune to certain cytokines, the body sees that its immune response is not working and tries even harder, which can lead to what is called a cytokine storm, where the body becomes flooded with these compounds and they eventually destroy the body itself. Foods such as Echinacea actually stimulate the production of these specific cytokines; hence consuming it is not a good idea if one suspects they may have the virus.

Elderberry juice (Sambucal) – AVOID – Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. This substance is very effective against the common flu but may not be desirable for the H5N1 virus. Increases in these cytokines may trigger a lethal cytokine storm. (Isr Med Journal2002 Nov;4:944-6)

Micro Algae (Chlorella and Spirulina) – AVOID – Increases production of cytokine TNF-a. (Pubmed PMID 11731916)

Honey – AVOID – Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID12824009)

Chocolate – AVOID – Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID 12885154, PMID 10917928)

Echinacea – AVOID – Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. Although it is often used for normal flu, research shows that it may increase the chance of cytokine storms for H5N1. (Pubmed PMID 15556647, 9568541)

Kimchi – AVOID – Increases production of cytokines TNF-a and IL-6. (Pubmed PMID15630182)

Dairy products & Bananas – AVOID – These foods increase mucous production.

The Coming Pandemic

May 1, 2009

By Michael C. Ruppert, Thursday April 30, 2009

http://mikeruppert.blogspot.com

It is pretty clear now that we’re going for the full ride with swine flu. This is not like SARS (see FTW). It is bigger and much more ominous. There are good reasons to separate the ice cream from the bs right now — the things that should be focused on from the things that distract, lead into blind alleys or induce panic. I had an epiphany today about why the W.H.O. and all governments are so concerned… It is not just the “unknown” nature of the bug but the fact that this is just more evidence that there are too many humans on this planet. It’s so simple. With almost seven billion people, more of us are coming into contact with more of us… at a faster rate than ever; thanks to oil-powered transportation and population growth. It couldn’t be more obvious. We’re popcorn. We’re also running out of energy, water, minerals, seafood and arable land… you name it.– Now compound that with the fact that the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919 — which killed between 20 and 40 million people — was/is a variant of H1N1 Swine Flu and there’s reason for one’s ears to pick up. If it killed that many, that fast, in 1918 how many could it kill now and how fast with airplanes, cars, trucks and ships? And this epidemic/nascent pandemic is behaving more like Spanish flu that swine flu. It likes to kill young adults with healthy immune systems.

When a Superbug Strikes Close to Home, How Will You Deal with It?

There are a host of antibiotic resistant superbugs that are already well established in our world, each with the potential for bringing great tragedy to an individual, or to explode into a global pandemic. In this article, I am going to provide several examples of the former, but also balance that fear with knowledge and hope gained from stories of individuals who have used a variety of alternative medicines, procedures and herbs to heal when the high-tech pharmaceutical arsenal of mainstream western medicine had failed to work its magic.

Can masks help stop flu spread?

Mexicans wearing surgical masks

“They are not bio-chemical suits. Masks are obviously just covering one part of the body so your hands and clothes could all have the virus on and when you take them off you will infect yourself.

“However, because people are wearing a mask they will think they are protected and may go into crowded areas.

“The best advice is to wash your hands and cover your mouth when sneezing.”

Glamorgan University expert Gail Lusardi agreed.

“Masks alone will not prevent spread of the influenza virus and basic hygiene measures like hand washing, safe use and disposal of tissues and cleaning of environmental surfaces are key to preventing infection transmission.”

She also said it was important they were correctly fitted – some of the more expensive respirator masks are molded to fit the face unlike standard masks that can be bought on the high street.

And she added: “A mask can be worn continuously for up to eight to 10 hours, but must be replaced if it is taken off at any stage.”

Swine Flu: News, Protection, Treatments.

April 27, 2009

The new viral strain of swine flu is called H1N1. The 1918 pandemic flu was also H1N1. Pigs have been implicated in the emergence of new influenza viruses responsible for two of the previous century’s influenza pandemics, including the 1918 pandemic strain which spread to nearly every part of the world killing an estimated 2.5 to 5% of the human population – somewhere in the region of 50 million to 100 million people.

The global community is hoping this does not turn into a pandemic. What can you do to allay your fears?

Become informed about what it is, and what measures you can take to lessen your risk of exposure, and learn how to treat it in case you get it.

On the origins of this virus, it seems likely that birds infected the swine with bird flu. This mutated the swine flu virus which spread among pigs. This was then picked up by humans in contact with the pigs and mutated into a human-carrying component.

“It is a hybrid that resulted from a combination of four different viruses — one that typically infects people, one that originated in North American birds and two from pigs in Europe and Asia,” Anne Schuchat, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told the Washington Post.

The cases of swine flu that are officially admitted

are listed on this google map.

Almost all of the deaths so far have been in Mexico City, Mexico

and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

Alternative news reports from on-site people in Mexico are illuminating the severity of the virus, as being much worse than the official reports.

I work as a resident doctor in one of the biggest hospitals in Mexico City and sadly, the situation is far from “under control”. As a doctor, I realise that the media does not report the truth. Authorities distributed vaccines among all the medical personnel with no results, because two of my partners who worked in this hospital (interns) were killed by this new virus in less than six days even though they were vaccinated as all of us were. The official number of deaths is 20, nevertheless, the true number of victims are more than 200. I understand that we must avoid to panic, but telling the truth it might be better now to prevent and avoid more deaths.
Yeny Gregorio Dávila, Mexico City

I’m a specialist doctor in respiratory diseases and intensive care at the Mexican National Institute of Health. There is a severe emergency over the swine flu here. More and more patients are being admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the heroic efforts of all staff (doctors, nurses, specialists, etc) patients continue to inevitably die. The truth is that anti-viral treatments and vaccines are not expected to have any effect, even at high doses. It is a great fear among the staff. The infection risk is very high among the doctors and health staff.
There is a sense of chaos in the other hospitals and we do not know what to do. Staff are starting to leave and many are opting to retire or apply for holidays. The truth is that mortality is even higher than what is being reported by the authorities, at least in the hospital where I work it. It is killing three to four patients daily, and it has been going on for more than three weeks. It is a shame and there is great fear here. Increasingly younger patients aged 20 to 30 years are dying before our helpless eyes and there is great sadness among health professionals here.
Antonio Chavez, Mexico City

I have a sister-in-law from San Luis Potosi state in Mexico and we were told that in San Luis Potosi there have been at least 78 deaths, just in that city alone, not 68 in all of Mexico, as is being reported. Schools have been closed until 6 May in this state and in other areas in Mexico. Also, many public venues are being closed, so this makes it more deadly and dangerous than has been stated.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

1. It appears to be airborne, transmitted human to human, mostly from coughs and sneezes. Wearing a mask in public or around infected people can reduce your chance of getting the flu. Staying 6 feet away from other people can also help. Wash hands often, especially after returning from any public place. (Take a shower if you are as nervous about it as I am)

The CDC currently recommends that you cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands often with soap and water, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, and try to avoid close contact with sick people.

2. The virus appears to be resistant to at least two weapons in the antiviral arsenal — amantadine and rimantadine (don’t bother taking these) – but it may still be susceptible to the popular flu drugs oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza). So if you take the anti viral Tamiflu or Relenza within 48 hours following symptom onset, it can weaken the virus and you will not have as severe an illness. (from abc news) (Some reports have stated that Tamiflu does not stop the cytokine storm that is what can be so severe)

The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. -CDC

3. Strengthen your immune system in any and every way possible. Get enough sleep.

4. Bolster your health with anti-viral foods such as garlic, onions, turmeric, red beet juice; vitamin C rich foods such as tomatoes, raw green peppers, strawberries and citrus fruit.. Daniel Vitalis has an anti-viral nutritional elixir that might protect you. (See Video here in previous post)

5. Keep some antiviral herbs on hand in case of infection. Consider Chinese Herbs.

6. Nutritional supplements to bolster your health and immune system include: Vitamin C, Vitamin A and Bioflavanoids, Zinc, Oil of Oregano, beta glucan, and N-acetyl-cysteine.

6. Jim Humble’s miracle mineral supplement is said to cure Bird Flu, Swine Flu, AIDS, hepatitis A, B and C, malaria, herpes, TB, most cancers and many more of mankind’s worst diseases.

7. Colloidal Silver (oral, IV, and nebulized, with particle size 0-10nm and a Ag+ positive charge). Also administered as drops into eyes and nose. Brands: Sovereign Silver, Super Silver, Silver Lungs, Silver Gen, APAP etc.

8. Atomic (nascent) Iodine

9. Viruses cannot live in a body that is PH balanced. Most of us are on the acidic side, so try to get more alkaline foods in your diet. Eat your leafy green veggies. Watermelon and asparagus are two highly alkalizing foods.

10. Grapefruit seed extract (GSE), also known as citrus seed extract, is a liquid derived from the seeds, pulp, and white membranes of grapefruit. While there has been no scientific demonstration of efficacy, this extract has been claimed by some practitioners of alternative medicine to possess antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties.

11. a Neti Pot = nasal irrigation. Can’t hurt to do this, either and might help, at least symptoms.

I know that if Swine Flu is in my neighborhood I will be taking as many of these as I can get my hands on!

Good Luck and God Bless,

JGrace
