Emily Jayne Cummins (born 11 February 1987) is an English inventor and entrepreneur.

Cummins is a student at Leeds University, studying Management and Sustainability. Her entry into a sustainable design competition, a pullable water carrier for manual workers in Africa, earned her a Technology Woman of the Future award in 2006.^[1][2]

She is currently developing an evaporative refrigerator that does not require electricity, which can be used to transport and store temperature-sensitive drugs in developing countries,^[3] for which she has won a Female Innovator of the Year for 2007 from the British Female Inventors and Innovators Network^[4] as well as a £12,000 sponsorship from NESTA.^[3][2]

Part one: What are we looking forward to”

I look forward to the world breaking up “into small colonies of the saved” (Robert Bly).  I look forward to a simpler, less neurotic life for me and my children.  I would like to think that my children, while their chances of survival may be lower, their chances of happiness will be higher.

The central change I would like to see is abandonment of the addictive, frenzied, exploitative American way of life in favor of a tribal, cooperative, relaxed way of life that puts responsibility toward other species and the Earth, as well as other human beings, first.

The main outcome I look forward to is the resurgence of a pristine, detoxified ecology worldwide, into which we blend human culture seamlessly, losing nothing already learned, and finding a new, huge, informing mutual Love, leading to the next golden age.

Learning how to live with each other and within the larger community of our bioregions and ecosystems in a way that is intimate, honest, humble, and humanly and ecologically sustainable.  That includes restoring viable community life, economic and ecological relationships and systems – living systems.

Women’s activist groups in Kenya have slapped their partners with a week-long sex ban in protest over the infighting plaguing the national unity government.

The Women’s Development Organisation coalition said they would also pay prostitutes to join their strike.

The campaigners are asking the wives of the Kenyan president and the prime minister to join in the embargo.

They say they want to avoid a repeat of the violence which convulsed the country after the late-2007 elections.

Relations between Kenya’s coalition partners, led by President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, have become increasingly acrimonious.

Now the dispute has moved to the nation’s bedrooms.

Patricia Nyaundi, executive director of the Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida), one of the organisations in the campaign, said they hoped the seven-day sex ban would force the squabbling rivals to make up.
